Bhaunpur, Odisha — Where Learning Finds a Way

In the village of Bhaunpur, Odisha, beneath open skies and against the warmth of sunbaked brick walls, a quiet revolution is unfolding. Women of all ages — young mothers with children by their side, and elders who have spent decades without access to formal education — gather together on a simple mat, united by a single, powerful resolve: to learn.

For most of these women, childhood offered no space for schooling. Responsibilities at home, economic hardship, and deeply rooted social norms meant that education remained a distant dream. But today, through IHF's Adult Literacy Program, that dream is becoming a reality.

This is what a Vidya Centre looks like — not a grand building, not a formal institution, but a community coming together in the belief that literacy belongs to everyone, at every age.

Each session held here is a step toward dignity, independence, and a better-informed life. Each woman who shows up is proof that it is never too late to begin.
