India Humanity Foundation continues to advance inclusive education by implementing its Adult Literacy Program across all 61 correctional homes in West Bengal, in collaboration with Rotary Calcutta Mahanagar. The initiative transforms time spent in correctional homes into an opportunity for learning, growth, and self-improvement.
The program enables inmates to develop basic reading, writing, and numeracy skills—helping them use their time meaningfully while preparing for reintegration into society. A key strength of the initiative is its peer-led learning model, where educated inmates are trained as inmate teachers and conduct structured classes for fellow inmates. So far, 239 inmate teachers have supported 3,616 inmate learners across the state.
The impact was notably visible at the Malda District Correctional Home, where 83 inmates, including 12 inmate teachers, participated in an Adult Literacy Orientation Program in the presence of Controller Shri Bhupendra Nath Biswas.
Through this initiative, India Humanity Foundation reinforces its belief that education can restore dignity, instill hope, and create pathways to transformation—even behind prison walls.
