9-year-old Marken Hareru Bekele from Ethiopia was born with a serious heart defect. His mother first noticed something was wrong when he had trouble feeding as a toddler. Recently, his condition worsened—he struggled to breathe during simple activities and felt his heart racing abnormally.

With support from India Humanity Foundation, Marken and his mother Hana travelled to India in August 2025. On 17^th August, 2025, he underwent a successful heart surgery that gave him a second chance at life at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Cochin, Kerala.

Marken has been recovering well, and his mother is deeply grateful for the care, travel, and support provided through this journey. 

He would be travelling to Ethiopia soon and wishing him a speedy recovery.
