Efrata's remarkable journey to a new beginning.

7-year-old Efrata Reta Kumsa from Ethiopia was diagnosed with a serious heart condition at the age of 1 year. Her mother first noticed something was wrong when she had some breathing problem and palpitations (external dyspnea). She is also a child with Down Syndrome. Recently, her condition worsened as she struggled very frequently with shortness of breath during simple activities.

With support from India Humanity Foundation, Efrata and her caretaker Senayit Gebremedhin Gebresilase travelled to India earlier this month. On 21st August at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences in Cochin, she underwent a heart surgery.

Today, Efrata is on cervical traction and is getting better. She is in good cardiac health. Her caretaker is very grateful for the care, travel, and support provided through this journey.
