Transforming water bodies and lives in Odisha

In 2023, the Restore Promise of Water (RPOW) project brought new life to the drought-affected Chandrapur block of Rayagada, Odisha. Led by India Humanity Foundation, in collaboration with Rotary India Water Conservation Trust, Rotary Club of Rayagada, NBAW Association (IIT), and PRABHAT NGO, the initiative aimed to rejuvenate traditional water bodies and rebuild livelihoods.

Across five villages, 479 farmers united to desilt ponds and transport nearly 100,000 cubic meters of nutrient-rich silt to their fields. Once-barren lands turned fertile. Ponds now retain water year-round, even in peak summer.

Key changes:

  • Water security for entire communities
  • 50 quintals of fish harvested annually through pisciculture
  • 15 acres of revived farmland producing diverse crops
  • Flourishing vegetable gardens boosting nutrition and income
